Since May 5, 2024, Uruguay has suffered floods due to heavy rains in the national territory and flooding in the upper basin of the Uruguay River, which occurred in the south of Brazil.

Nine states within the country are currently affected, with Treinta y Tres, Salto, Cerro Largo, Paysandú, and Durazno being the most affected. The National Emergency System (SINAE) reported on May 13 that 2,845 people were displaced from their homes, of which 2,255 were self-evacuated and 590 were evacuated.

Faced with this adversity, ADRA Uruguay took action and is responding in four of the most affected areas. On May 13, the team took the Mobile Laundry Unit (UML) to Salto. It consists of two washing machines and two industrial dryers, each capable of washing and drying 16 kg of clothing.

After arriving in the city, the volunteers received training, and together with the Church, they began collecting and distributing the clothes of those affected. On May 14, the clothes were collected and taken to the UML, where they began to be washed.

In the coming days, quilts will be delivered to the four regions that ADRA is assisting, thus helping approximately 1,050 people.
