A humanitarian aid truck operated by ADRA Ukraine was struck by an enemy FPV drone on May 16, 2025, while unloading food packages in the village of Urozhaine, located in the Beryslav district of Kherson region. The food was provided by the United Nations World Food Program (WFP). No injuries were reported, but the vehicle and part of the cargo sustained damage.

Earlier that day, the truck had departed from Kryvyi Rih, carrying food assistance for residents of the Beryslav community. ADRA Ukraine volunteers successfully delivered and unloaded approximately 380 food packages in three communities across the Beryslav district. The final delivery point was the village of Urozhaine, where aid was designated for both local residents and families from the nearby city of Beryslav.

At approximately 11:30 a.m., while unloading at the site, an FPV drone targeted the truck. Although the drone aimed for the driver’s cabin, it struck the rear portion of the vehicle instead. Despite the damage, the truck remained operable. The driver quickly evacuated the area, saving the remaining undamaged supplies. Due to the risk of continued aerial threats, other drones were still visible, the unloading operation was suspended.

Ongoing Risk to Humanitarian Work

This is not the first time ADRA Ukraine personnel have been targeted during humanitarian operations. On February 12, 2025, drones attacked volunteers distributing food in the Kherson region. A driver was injured, supplies were damaged, and a second strike destroyed a humanitarian vehicle.

Additional incidents include:

  • September 10, 2024: A drone strike hit a bread distribution point in Kherson region. A local volunteer sustained a concussion.

  • August 15, 2024: An FPV drone struck an ADRA aid distribution point in Kharkiv region, injuring one person.

  • August 12, 2023: An explosive drone dropped munitions on an ADRA Ukraine warehouse while humanitarian supplies were being loaded.

Despite these repeated threats, ADRA Ukraine remains committed to supporting civilians in high-risk zones and delivering essential aid wherever it is most needed.
