In late October 2024, a major DANA phenomenon triggered catastrophic flooding in eastern and southern Spain, with the Valencia region being hit particularly hard. The disaster caused widespread destruction and loss of life, ranking among the most severe natural calamities the country has experienced in recent years.
A wave of solidarity and support in response to the DANA storm has been significantly reflected in the generous contributions from donors and volunteers to ADRA Spain during the first two weeks after the emergency began.
In the first 13 days after the storm’s passage, ADRA Spain received approximately US$138,000 (€131,000) in donations and contributions from its members, collaborators, and supporters. With these figures, ADRA Spain has achieved a new milestone, surpassing the donation record set in 2021 during the onset of the conflict in Ukraine and the refugee crisis.
Of this amount, 20% of donations come from companies and other entities, and nearly 5% are financial contributions from abroad. Another significant portion comes from economic offerings collected specifically for this cause by many of Spain’s Adventist churches.
ADRA expresses gratitude for the solidarity of those who provided financial support to the extensive aid mobilized during these days to assist in the recovery of the affected areas.
ADRA Spain has opened two logistical points for the distribution of food and essential supplies in the towns of Paiporta and Catarroja. ADRA volunteers in the area are also assisting with street cleaning tasks, food distribution, and support for the victims and those affected by the storm.
The ADRA International network and ADRA offices in several European countries have also launched a fundraising campaign to support ADRA Spain’s intervention in this emergency.
