In response to devastating floods that struck Galați County, Romania, in September 2024, ADRA Germany partnered with ADRA Romania to launch Hope Above Water, a humanitarian project aimed at supporting vulnerable families impacted by the disaster.

The initiative, part of ADRA’s global focus on disaster response, was designed to meet the immediate and long-term needs of those affected, especially as they faced the challenges of winter. Implemented by ADRA Romania with funding from ADRA Germany, the two-month project began on December 18, 2024, and reached eight of the hardest-hit communities: Cudalbi, Valea Mărului, Pechea, Costache Negri, Cuza Vodă, Grivița, Drăgușeni, and Berești.

A total of 449 individuals (123 families) received assistance through 2,460 social vouchers. These vouchers allowed families to purchase household items, appliances, clothing, food, and other essential supplies—helping restore basic living conditions and a sense of normalcy.

With a total project value of US$33,500 (€31,000), Hope Above Water was part of ADRA’s broader commitment to delivering practical, compassionate support to people affected by natural disasters around the world.

“We thank ADRA Germany for its generous financial support and trust,” said Walter Creciuneac, project manager for ADRA Romania. “Through their contribution, we were able to respond quickly and efficiently to the urgent needs of the victims.”

In addition to meeting physical needs, the project offered a message of solidarity and hope. For the families affected by the floods, the swift and personalized response served not only as a lifeline, but as a reminder that they are not alone.
