Yanahina, a girl from the city of Salto, Uruguay, wanted to share her faith with her friends and classmates. Motivated by the desire to talk to them about God and create a special space with them, she decided to start a small group for Bible study and invited them to participate. To make the meetings different and engaging, she asked her grandmother, Cristina, to teach them crochet, a traditional craft, which sparked the interest of several girls.

This is how the initiative was born, bringing together girls from the community each week to learn new knitting techniques, study the Bible, and strengthen their faith. Each meeting begins with a meditation and a children's Bible study, where the participants progress through a course specially prepared for them. Then, they continue with crochet activities, learning step-by-step and developing new skills.

Influencing the community

From their very first meetings, the girls' enthusiasm remained unwavering. Even on drizzly days, they continued to gather to learn more about Jesus and keep practicing their knitting. As the weeks passed, they progressed in both their Bible studies and knitting projects, eventually creating colorful hair ties by themselves.

The initiative began to spark interest among other families in the community. Several girls expressed their desire to participate, and recently, a mother expressed her intention to attend with her five-year-old daughter after learning that it is a free workshop where learning to crochet is combined with the study of Christian principles.

For Cristina, teaching crochet to girls has been a special experience. Beyond passing on a technique she has known for years, she enjoys seeing how this space allows them to learn, share together, and learn more about God.

Yanahina's experience demonstrates that God can use simple initiatives to reach others. What began as an invitation among schoolmates continues to grow into a space for learning, friendship, and faith in the city of Salto.
