Entrepreneurs in the food business, Maria Estela and her husband sell spices. The couple felt the need to buy transportation to work, but there were no conditions for it. Both decided to pray to God and make a purpose: if they managed to acquire it, they would do social work by donating fruits and vegetables to families in need.

The purpose would only be a complement to the dream of both, which was to share biblical truths with the people who live in the vicinity of the Adventist church they attend.

After purchasing a car, the couple kept their promise. Through the Adventist Solidarity Action (ASA), both created a project that currently benefits about 70 families who live in the Federal District, near the Central Adventist Church in Santa Maria Norte. In total, families receive approximately 800 kilos of fruits and vegetables weekly.

The project, managed by the local church's ASA, has a team that surveys needy families, organizes the delivery location, and distributes food. The group picks up the vegetables every Monday and distributes the Green Basket, as it is known, on Tuesday, the day when a Bible study class is also held with the beneficiaries. “We are already in the 16th Bible study. It has been a blessing,” explains Estela.

“I feel very happy because that's what I like to do: helping people. I am thrilled to see these people interested in knowing about the Word of God,” declares a volunteer.

Meeting Needs

Adventist Solidarity Action is a social assistance service of the Seventh-day Adventist Church that consists of multiple solidarity initiatives carried out in an organized way, in favor of their peers and based on biblical principles.
