A group of 10,000 Toes ambassadors and Dorcas ladies from the Nadi English Church in Fiji brought smiles to the faces of 17 families, badly affected by the loss of income amid the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, by handing out loaves of bread.
Out in rural Nadi, surrounded by cane fields and accessible only by dusty, dirt roads, are isolated pockets of homes, occupied by humble families, some of whom live day-to-day, not knowing from where their next meal will come.
“We knew, from our 10,000 Toes community work earlier this year, that there were people out there riddled with NCDs (non-communicable diseases) and needed more help,” said Milika Nabaro, Dorcas team leader, “so we put some contribution together and bought 50 loaves of wholemeal bread and headed out to distribute them to these families. The touching part was to see children’s faces light up when given bread.”

Milika said it was such a humbling and satisfying experience to be able to replicate what Jesus came to do. “I am always inspired by the story of Jesus feeding the five thousand with five loaves of bread and two fish and wish we could perform the same miracle!”
Volau Delai, Dorcas leader, agrees. “The 10,000 Toes ambassadors, in partnership with the Dorcas ladies, hope to grow this ‘Loaf Ministry’ through kind donations. It does not take much to buy a loaf of bread, but to many, it really means much. And the only way to reach the vulnerable and to share the love of Jesus is just ‘To Go!'”
