The Northern Caribbean University (NCU) administration extends congratulations to graduates Paris Barrett Powell and Andrea Chisholm on being awarded Chevening Scholarships for 2020-2021.
“We are proud of this latest achievement by Paris and Andrea and wish them continued success in their careers,” says Dr. Lincoln Edwards, NCU president. “Indeed, NCU is happy to have been given the opportunity to contribute to their academic development.”
Barrett Powell graduated with a B.S. in social work with honors from NCU in 2015. She will pursue an M.A. in marketing and communications at the University of Westminster, which will aptly position her as an expert in global branding and marketing strategy, brand reputation, and nation branding, the British High Commission said in a release. Barrett Powell, a Youth Empowerment Officer with the Ministry of Education, Youth & Information, is a 2018 recipient of the Governor General’s Achievement Awards for Excellence, and a shortlisted nominee for the 2018 Prime Minister’s National Youth Awards.
Chisholm graduated from NCU in 2007 with a B.A. in mass communications, minoring in law and political science with honors. She will be pursuing an M.S. in media & communication governance at the London School of Economics and Political Science. The senior reporter/producer and news anchor at Television Jamaica is a multi-award-winning journalist. Her awards include the Press Association of Jamaica (PAJ) Journalist of the Year award for 2017 and 2018 and the Caribbean Broadcasting Union Award for Best Investigative Report (2017 and 2018).
According to the British High Commission, the Chevening Scholarship offers a unique opportunity for future leaders, influencers, and decision-makers from all over the world to develop professionally and academically, network extensively, experience U.K. culture, and build lasting positive relationships with the U.K.
This year’s batch of Chevening Scholars will increase the Jamaican alumni to over 250 since 1984, many of whom are leaders and trailblazers across Jamaican society, the British High Commission pointed out.
