Volunteers from the Seventh-day Adventist Church (IASD) in Linhares, Espírito Santo, Brazil, are revitalizing two houses that were disfigured due to the strong floods that hit the city last year. The initiative began on Wednesday, January 18, 2023, and lasted several days. In addition to the maintenance of the houses, volunteers from the city are promoting social welfare activities to serve the community.
The Bebedouro region, in Linhares, has 25 volunteers who work directly with the Caleb Mission project. Together, they have chosen the community of Rio Quartel, specifically Rua das Flores, to develop their efforts. Among the alleys in the area, it is possible to see the traces of destruction left by the rains of 2022. Therefore, among the efforts promoted by the group is the revitalization of at least two houses affected by the tragedy.
A group of volunteers went to the home of a pensioner who lives in a three-room house. The place is one street down from the evangelism point of the volunteers and visibly disfigured. Marks on the front of the house reveal how high the water reached it. On the site, the victim has lost furniture and appliances and lives in extremely precarious conditions. It was these reasons that led the Adventists to clean, paint, and return the house to a better condition.
Social Impact
In addition to revitalizing houses, the Caleb Mission group in Bebedouro develops activities for children, but the movement doesn't stop there. Forty minutes away from Rio Quartel, specifically in the Palmital neighborhood, another group carries out integrated activities to serve the community. Inside an educational center of the municipality, healthcare and well-being activities are carried out for the population.
On Wednesday, January 18, a physical education professional performed physical activities for the residents. In the following days, the place will host sex education talks under the care of a psychologist, dental care, and talks on emotional health for women.
