The Leapfrog Group, a national watchdog nonprofit for hospital quality and safety, has released the 2022 Top Hospital Award and the Fall 2022 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades, using stringent criteria to assess hospitals for their safety and quality of care. The highly competitive designation of a Leapfrog Top Hospital is earned only by hospitals that meet the high standards of the Top Hospital Award's methodology, which considers qualities such as preventing medical errors, maternity care quality, infection rates, and more.

In 2022, only 5 percent of hospitals evaluated by Leapfrog met the rigorous standards for the Top Hospital designation, nine of which are AdventHealth hospitals. Of the nation’s 115 hospitals recognized as Top Hospitals, AdventHealth hospitals represent nearly a tenth of the list.

More than two dozen AdventHealth hospitals also earned a Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade of “A” in the latest analysis released for Fall 2022. This additional evaluation analyzes performance related to preventing medical errors, injuries, accidents, infections, and other potential harm to patients in their care.

AdventHealth Daytona Beach is among the few hospitals in the nation to receive 22 consecutive “A” Leapfrog Hospital Safety grades since the grading system’s inception ten years ago. The grading system is fully transparent, and grades, which are updated in the spring and fall, can be freely accessed by consumers looking to make informed healthcare choices.

“We are honored to recognize a number of AdventHealth hospitals as a Top Hospital this year,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “These hospitals have demonstrated that they truly put patients first. We congratulate the board, staff, and clinicians whose efforts made this honor possible.”

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the only hospital ratings program based exclusively on the prevention of medical errors and harm to patients.

“The Leapfrog Group’s recent update of the Hospital Safety Grade and the new Top Hospital designation for nine AdventHealth hospitals reflects a commitment to our service standard, ‘Keep Me Safe,’” said William Scharf, MD, executive clinical director of quality and safety for AdventHealth. “To be honored for our accomplishments in patient safety as we emerge from the COVID-19 pandemic is a testimony to our brand promise to help people feel whole.”

Early last year, AdventHealth was the first and only health system to earn the Emerald Award for Outstanding Achievement by a Health Care System, which honored AdventHealth’s performance across Leapfrog’s Hospital Safety Grades and Top Hospital award.
