Nearly 1,000 people joined live via Zoom for the first session of a Financial Education webinar held on March 3, 2026. The initiative was organized by Radio Nuevo Tiempo Perú in partnership with the Adventist Development and Relief Agency Perú.

The program aims to provide practical tools to help individuals and families better manage their financial resources.

During the opening session, specialists discussed topics such as over-indebtedness, credit card use, and the impact of everyday spending—often referred to as “small expenses”—on household finances.

“It is important to know all the debts you have, because they are tools to work on them or sink into them,” explained Belinda Gómez, master of microfinance manager at ADRA Peru and one of the speakers at the meeting.

The training program consists of eight virtual sessions held every Tuesday for registered participants. The course content is based on the biblical study series Financial Education in Light of the Bible, published in Esperanza Magazine and promoted by Radio Nuevo Tiempo.

During his presentation, Mervin Chávez, manager of Nuevo Tiempo Perú, emphasized that proper money management begins with clear goals.

“Talking about finances is talking about objectives. For example, talking about expenses is talking about concrete things, not emotions. It's advisable to set rules and stick to them to achieve financial goals,” he noted.

Organizers say the initiative responds to a growing need for financial education in Peru. According to data from the country’s Superintendency of Banking, Insurance, and Private Pension Fund Administrators (SBS), about 41 percent of the population lacks basic financial literacy, while only 13 percent demonstrate an adequate level of knowledge in this area.

Future sessions of the webinar will address topics such as budgeting, savings strategies, and building emergency funds.

The program is the result of a strategic partnership between Nuevo Tiempo Perú and ADRA Perú. Prior to the launch, an open registration process attracted more than 2,000 applicants.

Participants who complete all eight sessions will receive a certificate of participation and will be invited to attend an in-person graduation ceremony organized by both institutions.
