More than 20 Seventh-day Adventist volunteers spent June 6, 2026, serving the 20 resident children of Esperança Orphanage in Maputo, Mozambique in an initiative organized by the South Mozambique Mission and the Mozambique Union Mission.

The volunteers cleaned the orphanage grounds, restored the garden, constructed a base to support the facility's water tank, prepared a plot for a vegetable garden, and donated more than 200 school notebooks and other educational materials.

Helena Ernesto Bambo, director of Esperança Orphanage, shared the history of the institution with the volunteers and formally thanked the Adventist Church for its longstanding partnership with Esperança Orphanage.

"Your presence and support demonstrate that these children are loved, valued, and remembered," Bambo said.

She added that the Adventist Church's continued involvement has brought practical assistance and hope to children facing significant social and economic challenges.

Olga Muleso, Women's and Children's Ministries director at the Mozambique Union Mission, addressed the children, staff, and volunteers, reminding the children of their value in God's eyes and encouraging them to pursue their dreams with faith and determination. She also challenged church members to continue reflecting Christ's love through acts of compassion and service.

The Esperança Orphanage visit is one of several activities being held across Mozambique to mark Children's Month.
