The first Seventh-day Adventist radio station in Latin America, Union Radio, celebrated 25 years of broadcasting in a special ceremony held Aug. 17 in the Parque de la Industria in Guatemala City.

Serving a population of more than 13.5 million people, Union Radio had its beginning in 1978 with the help of Pastors Robert Folkenberg, Esteban Lopez Porras, and a group of lay people under the direction of Adventist World Radio (AWR). Union Radio broadcasts programs for children and adolescents, family unity and community service and supported singers throughout the airwaves in Guatemala. The station offers five frequencies, one FM, one AM and three shortwave.

Today, it only airs programs to its FM station 105.7 and is solely supported by donations from companies and individuals who see this medium as an opportunity to contribute for a better Guatemala.

After its first 15 years on the air, Union Radio opened the way for new radio stations throughout Latin America.

Pastor Israel Leito, president for the church in Inter-America, was a special guest at the anniversary celebration, along with leaders of the church in Guatemala. Hundreds of people were present to enjoy a special program and listen to a musical concert.
