On August 23, 2025, Seventh-day Adventists around the world observed enditnow Emphasis Day, this year focusing on the abuse of the elderly. The annual event, led by the Women’s Ministries department of the General Conference of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, seeks to raise awareness and take a stand against all forms of abuse and violence, affirming the dignity of every human life.

In Abuja, Nigeria, the Abuja West Nigeria Mission marked the day with worship, outreach, and a call to honor and show love to older members of society. The program concluded in a celebration as seven individuals chose to be baptized.

Chibuenyim Munachim, Women’s Ministries director for Abuja West Nigeria Mission, told participants that the church must recommit to caring for and respecting the elderly, who are often marginalized.

“We have neglected them for too long, and God is calling us today, at this time, to honor our parents and respect the elderly,” Munachim said.

The program featured talks, prayers, and outreach activities that encouraged members to challenge cultural patterns of neglect and instead embrace intentional acts of care and service. Messages emphasized the importance of cultivating love and protection within families and communities, with leaders committing the church to continue advocating for dignity, compassion, and care for all people.

The day concluded with a baptism service led by Gideon Mordecai, evangelism director for Abuja West Nigeria Mission, where seven people chose to join the church. Organizers described the baptisms as a testimony to the ongoing impact of the Church’s message of salvation and renewal.
