A Bible received in childhood has shaped a journey of faith that continues to unfold decades later in northern Brazil.

Raimunda Queiroz’s story began years ago when she received her first Bible through outreach initiatives such as Luzeiro VI, which serves riverside communities. Though years passed, she kept the Bible and eventually returned to it in search of a deeper understanding.

Discoveries that changed everything

As an adult, Queiroz began studying the Scriptures more intentionally, seeking answers she had not found in her previous faith experience.

Through her study, she encountered teachings that led her to reexamine her beliefs, including the biblical Sabbath. Her decision to follow these convictions marked a turning point in her spiritual journey.

"I received the Bible when I was still a girl. Over time, I began to study it and saw that it taught differently," Raimunda points out.

Reflecting on her experience, she added, “That’s how I understood what God wanted from me.”

A home that became a mission

Today, Queiroz has opened her home as a place for Bible study, prayer, and fellowship. During the recent Holy Week evangelism program, her home served as a gathering point for community members.

The initiative is part of outreach efforts organized by the Itamarati Seventh-day Adventist Church in Melgaço, Pará.

“Opening my home and welcoming people to study the Bible makes me very happy,” Queiroz said.

She is currently preparing for baptism.

An environment that brings people closer

For Adventist pastor Antônio Macedo, small-group meeting spaces, such as homes, help make the message more accessible.

“It’s a neutral environment where people are more familiar with the gospel,” he said. “In church, many arrive with prejudices. At the preaching point, they feel more at ease.”

According to Macedo, Queiroz’s influence in the community has already encouraged others to participate.

“She is a kind-hearted woman and helps many people,” he said.

He added that her decision may inspire others to follow a similar path. “We believe that her decision will be the decision of many others,” he said.

Continual influence

Church leaders say Queiroz’s experience reflects how early spiritual influence can have a lasting impact. What began with a Bible received in childhood has grown into an ongoing effort to share faith within her community.

Her home now serves as a place of connection and hope, as outreach efforts continue to reach new individuals.
