The Asuncion Adventist Sanitarium in Paraguay performed 27 free surgeries for low-income patients between March 15 and 20, 2026. The procedures included inguinal, umbilical, and gallbladder hernia repairs.

The initiative was carried out through a humanitarian medical mission supported by AdventHealth and implemented in partnership with the Ministry of Public Health and Social Welfare (MSPyBS).

The surgeries were part of a collaborative effort among institutions committed to expanding access to healthcare, combining resources and medical expertise to provide timely treatment for underserved populations.

Coordinated medical effort

The surgical interventions were developed as part of a joint effort between institutions committed to health, combining resources, knowledge, and vocation of service to provide timely and quality care to those who need it most.

The medical team was supported by Penny Johnson, CEO of AdventHealth in Texas, USA; Dr. Óscar Fernández, director of the XVIII Health Region of the MSPyBS; and Dr. Adán Godoy, director of the Barrio Obrero National Hospital, from where the patients were selected.

Patients expressed appreciation for the care received. Guillermina Rivarola said, “The care was excellent; the doctors were very kind, as were the nurses, and I am more than happy, I feel blessed.”

Liz Giménez also expressed her gratitude, noting that the surgery has allowed her to return to her work selling fruits and vegetables.

The Asuncion Adventist Sanitarium said the initiative reflects its ongoing mission to serve the community by improving access to healthcare and supporting efforts that strengthen the broader health system.
