Volunteers from the Caleb Mission project distributed more than 50 lunch boxes to residents of the Complexo do Alemão favela in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on January 25, 2026, in the area known as Casinhas.

Organizers said the outreach is part of a monthly social initiative led by the Seventh-day Adventist Church in the Engenho da Rainha neighborhood, focused on supporting people in vulnerable situations.

Meals were prepared at the church using food donated by members. The menu included rice, pasta, farofa (toasted cassava flour), soy protein, and roasted vegetables. Preparation began the day before, as volunteers sorted donations, washed and cut vegetables, and organized supplies to ensure enough food for distribution.

During the delivery, volunteers also prayed with residents. According to organizers, many people requested prayer.

In addition to meal distribution, the group held a health fair in another part of Complexo do Alemão known as Campo do Seu Zé. The activity included guidance and services aimed at community well-being, including an introduction to the “eight natural remedies.”

Volunteer Thamirea Gomes said the initiative is “a practical way to live out the Christian teaching of doing unto others as you would have them do unto you,” adding that it also offers “social and spiritual impact in the community.”
