The province of Tucumán, Argentina, is entering a recovery phase following heavy rains that struck the region in the second half of March. Although water levels have receded in most affected areas, the flooding caused significant damage, leaving thousands of families working to rebuild their lives.

According to a survey conducted by ADRA Argentina, more than 15,000 people were affected by the storm. Southern communities, including La Madrid, experienced some of the most severe impact, with extensive damage to homes and infrastructure.

Many families have begun returning to their homes under difficult conditions. In numerous cases, houses remain covered in mud, with structural damage and limited access to basic necessities.

The situation now reflects a transition from emergency response to early recovery, with ongoing needs including cleaning supplies, safe drinking water, food, shelter, and essential household items. More than 100 schools were also affected, disrupting classes and adding to the challenges faced by children and families.

Emergency response

In response, ADRA Argentina deployed its National Emergency Response Team to assess needs and coordinate relief efforts with local Adventist churches and volunteers.

Teams have visited several affected communities, including La Cocha, Graneros, and La Madrid, as well as rural areas where access remains limited.

Relief efforts have included the distribution of food, water, and hygiene supplies, as well as assistance with cleaning homes and educational facilities. More than 150 volunteers have participated in these initiatives.

In addition to immediate assistance, ADRA is evaluating the implementation of cash-based support programs, allowing families to address urgent needs more directly.

“The [Adventist] Church’s commitment is key to supporting families during these difficult times, being there for them and arriving on time. This is reflected in concrete actions that embody the values ​​of justice, compassion, and love that drive us,” said María José Amigo, program director of ADRA Argentina.

Solidarity campaign

Despite initial progress, significant needs remain, particularly in rural communities and among vulnerable populations. In some areas, the loss of livestock and subsistence animals has further impacted families’ livelihoods.

ADRA Argentina continues to lead a nationwide fundraising campaign to support ongoing relief and recovery efforts.

Organizers emphasized that continued support will be essential as affected communities work toward long-term recovery.
