ADRA Romania expresses its gratitude to ADRA Canada, which contributed to the financing of the Lifesaving Evacuation, Assistance and Protection (LEAP) project “in the amount of CAN$1,028,937 (€711,486,77—approx. US$779,000) for the 3,913 Ukrainian refugees affected by the conflict.

The project for Ukrainian refugees, implemented by ADRA Romania and financed by ADRA Canada, started on July 1, 2022, and lasted nine months.

The objective of LEAP was the assistance of a target group of Ukrainian refugees from the territory of Romania. In the framework of the ADRA project, Ukrainian refugees benefited from psychosocial support services (individual and group psychological counseling, case management, legal counseling, and counseling on issues related to gender-based violence), financial assistance for shelters that hosted refugees, and the integration of children in the Romanian education system, as well as the arrangement of friendly spaces for the organization of activities adapted to their age. At the same time, 26,389 vouchers worth CAN$368,176.13 were distributed, with which the refugees could buy any products from the supermarket.

"We are grateful for the opportunity to support people who have fled the path of war, responding to their most urgent needs in order to give them some comfort and support in this crisis situation,” said Ramona Popovici, ADRA Romania project manager. In addition to the financial assistance, the psychological support given to the children who, in the activities organized by the ADRA Romania teams, were able to integrate experiences that helped them enjoy their childhood again was highly appreciated. “We thank ADRA Canada for the involvement and funding!" she exclaimed.
