On Sunday, June 9, 2024, torrential rains fell on Savoie and Haute-Savoie, France, causing significant damage and mobilizing emergency services. Collonges-sous-Salève, headquarters of the Salève Adventist campus, was particularly affected by the bad weather.

Firefighter Interventions and Power Cuts

In Collonges-sous-Salève, according to information from Franbleu.fr, a nursing home was partially flooded. Thanks to the rapid intervention of emergency services and the installation of a generator, the 80 residents were able to stay on-site in complete safety. The Saint-Vincent Private Vocational High School and the local Buffalo Grill restaurant also suffered flooding, leading to the closure of the school and the technical unemployment of nine employees. In addition, half of the homes in the town were without electricity for several hours.

Salève Adventist Campus Affected

The bad weather also affected the Salève Adventist Campus. Several facilities, including the Aula Auditorium and the new Jean Weidner Residence, were flooded. The residence was housing a group of young high school students from the Antilles who were there to explore the sites related to the Reformation. The youth dorms, situated in the basement of the building, was especially impacted, resulting in soaked suitcases and personal belongings.

Despite these floods, no injuries were reported on campus. The Adventist community showed solidarity, with residents and visitors helping each other to dry their belongings and restore the areas affected by the waters.
