Ghana’s President Calls for Expanded Collaboration with Adventist Church

Ghana’s president, John Dramani Mahama, has called on the Seventh-day Adventist Church to strengthen its collaboration with the government in health, education—particularly Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET)—and agribusiness.

Mahama made the appeal during a courtesy visit from Adventist Church leaders who went to congratulate him on his re-election and to reaffirm the Church’s longstanding role in national development through partnerships with successive governments.

Leading the delegation, Chris Annan Nunoo, secretary of the Southern Ghana Union Conference, assured the president of the Church’s commitment to ongoing collaboration. He highlighted opportunities in health, education, youth development, and agribusiness, including initiatives supported by the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA).

Delegation of Adventist Leaders

The delegation included:

  • Edward Nyarkoh, president, North Central Union Mission

  • Alex Agyapong, secretary, Mid-Ghana Union Conference

  • Godfred Kwesi Ataburo, secretary, North Central Union Mission

  • Eric Owusu Amoako, chief finance officer, North Central Union Mission

Other attendees were:

  • P.O. Mensah, retired pastor

  • Solace Asafo, spokesperson for the Adventist Church in Ghana and lecturer at UniMAC

  • William Kofi Koomson, vice chancellor of Valley View University

  • Lydia Abrefi Nsiah, general manager of Adventist Schools, Ghana

  • Alfred Oko Vanderpuije, member of parliament for Ablekuma South and an Adventist Church member

  • Isaac Kankam Boadu, director of ADRA-Ghana

  • James Antwi, director of the Ghana Adventist Health Service

A Historic Partnership for Ghana’s Future

The visit highlights the Adventist Church’s continued commitment to nation-building through its widespread network of schools, hospitals, humanitarian services, and spiritual influence. Mahama’s call reinforces the valuable role faith-based organizations can play in advancing social services and economic empowerment in Ghana.
