Adventist University of Africa Launches Book on Ellen G. White’s Impact

The Adventist University of Africa (AUA) hosted the launch of The Legacy of Ellen G. White in Africa: Contributions and Influence, the latest book by Dr. Gabriel Masfa. The event drew scholars, church leaders, students, and community members to discuss the continuing influence of White, a co-founder of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, on the denomination in Africa.

Although White never visited the continent, speakers noted that her writings have shaped doctrinal, cultural, and social aspects of Adventism across Africa. Keynote speakers highlighted White’s advocacy for racial equality, human dignity, and mission-focused values that resonate within African communities.

Masfa’s book examines the relevance of her writings on health, country living, and end-time prophecy for contemporary African society, while also addressing misrepresentations and fringe interpretations.

The presentations also addressed topics from the book, including White’s counsel on diet, rural living, dress, and eschatology. Panelists explored how these themes can be applied in Africa today to encourage healthy lifestyles, ethical living, and spiritual preparation.

Speakers at the event called for broader engagement with White’s writings, including further translation into African languages and additional scholarly research. They stressed that contextual understanding is key to avoiding misinterpretations and fostering a balanced appreciation of her work.

Looking Ahead

The event concluded with reflections on integrating White’s teachings into both academic study and daily faith practice. Participants described the launch as a milestone in Adventist scholarship and expressed hope that the book will inspire ongoing dialogue and study.

The Legacy of Ellen G. White in Africa will be distributed to libraries, classrooms, and study groups across the region.
