Leaders from across the Southern Zambia Union Conference (SZBU) in the Southern Africa-Indian Ocean Division met in Lusaka, Zambia, for a Leadership Summit, bringing together about 100 leaders from four conferences, one field, and church institutions under the theme “Anchored in Truth, Aligned for Mission.” Organizers said the summit is focused on prayer, mission strategy, and cooperation among both new and returning leaders.

In his keynote address, SZBU President Vanny Munyumbwe welcomed delegates and emphasized the permanence of the Adventist message, calling leaders to collaborate and remain “aligned for mission.”

“We do not redefine our message to fit our times,” Munyumbwe said. “We proclaim the everlasting gospel for all times. Times may change but the message remains the same – it is an eternal gospel.”

He also encouraged leaders to mobilize members for service through small groups anchored in the BIble.

SZBU Secretary Goliath Naini urged leaders to work in unity, saying cohesion and cooperation are strengthened through the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Speaking on “Unity through the Holy Spirit,” he referenced Jesus’ prayer that “they may be one,” and called on leaders to allow the Spirit’s influence to shape their leadership.

The union’s chief financial officer also addressed resourcing for mission, encouraging leaders to strengthen income-generation capacity alongside traditional giving. He noted that some conferences, fields, and institutions have land that could be used for productive activities, and challenged leaders to develop those resources more intentionally.

Organizers said the 2026 Leadership Summit will continue over the next few days with an emphasis on mission alignment and the four pillars of the Seventh-day Adventist Church’s I Will Go strategic focus: Communion with God, Identity in Christ, Unity through the Holy Spirit, and Mission for All.
