Twenty-one-year-old Brenda Matos has found a unique and dynamic way to share biblical messages with thousands of Internet users. Using TikTok, a wildly popular social media video app, Matos posts daily videos featuring Christian themes, Bible study tips, reading suggestions for books by Adventist Church co-founder Ellen G. White, and a series of stories about Protestant reformers. Matos records her TikTok videos at home in Joinville, Santa Catarina, Brazil, using her smartphone.

Matos’ profile has 45,000 followers and her posts have received more than 400,000 likes. This is significant when you consider she started using this platform a little over a month ago. Every day she is reaching more people.

Her idea to produce biblical content came from watching a video in which Pastor Victor Bejota, presenter of TV Novo Tempo and internet video producer, spoke of the influence that Christian youth can have by using social media to promote spiritual themes.

A few days after watching this video, Matos viewed a live streamed presentation by some friends who were talking about Jesus. At that moment, she remembered Bejota's comment and had no doubt that she would start her internet evangelism project as soon as possible. She prayed, dedicating her social media networks and talents to God.

Matos recalls, “I asked God to wake me up for worship on Saturday morning. During the night, I woke up and couldn't sleep anymore. Then I understood that He wanted to show me something, so I got up and prayed. When I went to choose a worship service, the Bible app sent me a notification for a daily reading. So I turned to John 10:11 where it says that Jesus is the Good Shepherd who gives His life for the sheep. After reading this verse, I was very moved and decided to record my first video talking about the Bible.”

God's answer to prayer

Her first video, recorded in April, reached 40,000 views. After this video, thousands of people started following her publications. “It is incredible. I am so excited! This is the answer to a prayer I prayed two months ago. God was very quick to respond; His will in this project is clear. So, I continue to strive because I know that it is all for Him,” the young woman exudes.

In addition to likes and views, several people leave comments. In some cases, followers contact Matos privately to talk to her about the content. “One girl in particular called me on my Instagram profile and said that she had many suicidal thoughts, but when she saw the tips, she realized that she would be relieved when she studied the Bible,” she says.

Evangelism on Instagram

In response to her videos on TikTok, Matos has seen the number of followers on her Instagram profile more than double. As a result, she has started some Bible study projects on this social network, too. She recently studied the book of Mark with 15 people, including Adventist believers and people from other denominations.
