Books and resources created in the South Pacific Division (SPD) are making a significant contribution to discipleship training in other parts of the world.
Disciple-making books and resources widely used to equip members in the South Pacific are now being rolled out in places like the South England and South France conferences.
The books, including the “Following Jesus” series, and the “If you can Eat” and “If you are Thirsty” titles, have been widely used by the SPD’s Discipleship Ministry Team. Some titles are available in French, German, Dutch, and/or Serbian translations. Conversation guides and bookmarks have also been produced.
Author Dr. Peter Roennfeldt is pleased that the books and resources are being widely used throughout the South Pacific Division and beyond.
“It is very encouraging [because] many are finding that evangelism is not simply the role of the professional, but every believer is called to make disciples—and Jesus’ approach is something all of us can follow,” he said.
Dr Roennfeldt believes that it is the practical nature of the books that makes them appealing to a wide audience.
“Evangelism has become so complicated and expensive,” he said. “Many want to return to how Jesus and the apostles multiplied disciples—which is what our books [aim to] do, [as they teach] practical approaches for immediate application.”
“It is an approach that relates to all cultures, and [it] is simple, reproducible, and anyone can do it at no cost. Leaders have seen many expensive, corporate, and mass approaches to evangelism—but are realizing we must get back to the task Jesus gave, for every believer to be a disciple who makes disciples.”
Pastor Michael Njagi Mbui, Personal Ministries and Sabbath School Department Director for the South England Conference, said “Making Disciple Building Communities” has been the mission of his Conference since 2019.
In the last two years, Dr. Roennfeldt has conducted training for leaders and members of the Conference and introduced them to the resources.
“These resources have been appreciated,” Pastor Njagi Mbui said. “Those who take time to go through them have found them really helpful.”
Adventist Media and Dr. Roennfeldt are currently developing an exciting new video resource for local churches based on the “Following Jesus” series, which is expected to further spread SPD resources throughout the world.
