More than 3,000 people from the province of East New Britain (ENB), Papua New Guinea, marched along the main street of Kokopo on August 24, 2023, to launch the PNG for Christ campaign.
The group, including Adventurers, Pathfinders, youth, and community members were accompanied by a police escort to the Kokopo Town Market. Students from Sonoma College, Sonoma Primary School, Kambubu High School, and the University of Natural Resources and Environment also participated in the march.
Provincial Police Commander Inspector Januarius Vosovai noted the importance churches hold in partnering with the government to provide spiritual services to the country. He said despite having different values, languages, and cultures, “we serve one God and one government.” He highlighted the importance of using diversity to impact the country and community for Jesus positively.
Tony Kivung is an evangelical Pentecostal pastor, a member of the Provincial Executive Council, and represents all Christian churches at the ENB Provincial Governor’s office. According to Pastor Kivung, churches have a responsibility to deliver the Gospel. He added that the government needs churches to help reduce law-and-order problems in the community by pointing people to the Word of God, as this will help change people’s lives to become better citizens.
Pastor Andrew Opis, president of the New Britain New Ireland Mission (NBNIM), said the Seventh-day Adventist Church has an important truth to share with the people of ENB. He invited those in attendance to participate in the PNG for Christ campaign in 2024 to learn more about this truth and be changed by the Word of God.
Pastor Peter Bebe, program host and NBNIM Youth director, thanked the church members who came to the launch and the public for participating in such a memorable event.
