Inter-American Division (IAD) leaders, ministers, and members across the 24-union territory took part in the launch of a special prayer initiative today via Zoom as part of the I Will Go comprehensive mission initiative. Coined as Sunday Power Prayer, the sessions will take place from 6 a.m. to 7 am. (Miami Time) every first and third Sunday of every month until the world church’s General Conference Session in May.

“We recognize the importance of prayer and coming together to seek God as we meet to intercede for God’s protection, zeal for mission, the sick, and other pressing issues in the territory,” said Pastor Leonard Johnson, executive secretary of the church in Inter-America on Jan. 3.

Pastor Elie Henry, president of the church in Inter-America, emphatically shared how important it is for the church to start together against the backdrop of prayer together early in the mornings.

“As we look at the year 2020, with all the crisis we have seen living through the pandemic, bringing about many challenges, this calls for us to have a closer relationship with God, taking time to talk to Him, to listen to His voice, to confess and be attentive to what He wants us to do as we serve wherever He calls us to go,” said Pastor Henry.

“The Inter-American Division was severely tested in 2020,” he added. “We lost a lot of courageous warriors, faithful servants of the Lord, and faithful disciples of Jesus Christ due to the coronavirus pandemic,” he said. Pastor Henry was speaking about the recent passing of Pastor Ervin González, publishing ministries director for the church in Inter-America, who died from complications from COVID-19.

Pastor Henry encouraged the more than 700 leaders connected to be committed to praying more as he referenced 1 Chronicles 7:14-15.

“Our God is a powerful God. We must call on Him to move forward,” he added.

Pastor Henry thanked the leadership for their prayers during the days he and his daughter were held captive for four days in Haiti last month.

“Many of you are facing hard times and challenges but I am here to tell you that God is able to give you victories as He did for us,” said Pastor Henry.

Pastor Henry reminded leaders to be active in taking part and organize their territory to go along with the world church’s 10 Days of Prayer, beginning on Jan. 6.

Regional leaders prayed for the Henry family, the survivors of Pastor González, and specific reasons for prayers for Jan. 3, 2021:

  1. Health improvement and other personal issues of various members of staff and their families at the IAD office.
  2. For control and containment of COVID-19 in the IAD territory and globally.
  3. Effective implementation of the “I Will Go” Strategic Plan across the IAD territory
  4. Online and On-site evangelistic program of the Division for the year 2021 resulting in the achievement of the soul-winning and retention goals of each Union
  5. Commitment to mission in the IAD territory
  6. Mission to the Chinese program that begins in the Dominican Republic, Panama, and the Division at large.
  7. Special training of pioneers to reach Muslims in our territory.
  8. Divine providence to overrule in the final decision to be taken this month about the convening of the General Conference Session this year.
  9. Safety and protection of GC Session delegates.
  10. For our young people suffering from depression and having suicidal thoughts
  11. A reformation on prayer in the lives of all leaders and members of the Churches across the Division territory.
  12. For the Union and conference sessions to be conducted during this year across the IAD territory.
