Sydney, Australia ... [ANN] Seventh-day Adventist John B. Bagnall of Gordon, New South Wales, was sworn in as a Judge of the Compensation Court of New South Wales on Friday, Nov. 21, 1997. The appointment, made by the State Governor, is until June 30, 1998.

This is believed to be the first time a Seventh-day Adventist has served as a Judge in Australia.

The appointment is the culmination of an extensive legal career. Bagnall holds a B.A. degree from the University of Sydney, and a Diploma of Law from the Supreme Court. After working in a law practice for many years, he took up the position of an arbitrator of the District Court, serving for approximately 18 months until his appointment to the bench.

Bagnall is currently associate head elder of the Epping Church, and has been an elder there for about 25 years. [Robert Douglas]
