The scene above shows the moment when Danilo Lopes Herbst suffers a serious accident while working. The image recorded by a security camera in Santa Maria Jetibá, in the south of Espírito Santo, shows in detail when a truck pulled the telephone wires from a pole where it was doing maintenance and ended up falling. The accident happened on November 10.

The 29-year-old man was quickly taken to a hospital in a very serious condition and had to be intubated, as he suffered head trauma and several fractures to the body. Herbst’s family was desperate when they heard the news. Luciana Herbst, his wife, thought she was going to lose her husband.

“When I found out what had happened to Danilo, I went into a state of shock. I thought I was going to lose the love of my life. I didn't know how to say this to our three children”, explains the seamstress.

Miracle in the Hospital

Due to the health condition, Herbst had to go into a state of induced coma, but it was after three days that something impressive happened. On November 13, while receiving a visit from his family and some friends from the church he attends, he woke up from his coma. His sister, Daniela Herbst, says he pointed to the Bible and made signs with his hands.

“My brother took a pen and paper and wrote Proverbs 16:9. We were impressed and very grateful for that miracle that had just happened. My [other] brother, who is a pastor of the Adventist Church, was there at the hospital to do a service for him, when Danilo woke up and wrote the verse”, narrates Daniela. The biblical verse described says, “A man’s heart plans his way, But the Lord directs his steps.” (NKJV)

Danilo is a member of the Adventist Church, and according to his sister, he is active in the congregation's activities and has this verse from Proverbs as a favorite in his daily life. The young man, who dreams of being a pastor, took the entrance exam for theology this year, but was left on the waiting list.

According to the family, Danilo is recovering well and was discharged this Thursday, November 18. “He already plays with the doctors and interacts well with us. Danilo is back”, celebrates his wife.
