Following Jesus' command to "Go and preach," a group of members from the Seventh-day Adventist church in Toledo, Spain, distributed 300 copies of Ellen G. White’s Steps to Christ on Thursday, April 6, 2023.

A Religious Celebration in Toledo

On that festive Thursday, one of the most important processions of Toledo’s Holy Week took place. Famous for the image of the Virgin Mary carrying a gold medal of the city of Toledo, the procession starts from the Cathedral of Toledo and goes all throughout the historic center of the city. It was a day on which many people from Toledo and surrounding villages came to witness this procession. Hours before, the streets and the city center were full of pedestrians and people looking for a place from which to watch the event.

The Toledo Church decided it was a good time to share the Gospel with the people who were there, as there was a certain religious fervor. A group from the church got together with the intention of doing missionary work and handing out Steps to Christ to interested people.

Three Hundred Books Distributed

“We started in our church, classifying and stamping the books with the details of the church (in case someone wanted to find us),” shared Augustín Peinado, pastor of the Toledo Church, “and preparing to distribute them in the center. We prayed and went out with the intention of distributing 200 books.”

Although expectations were modest, the church managed to hand out 300 books. The Pathfinders, dressed in their uniforms, helped with this work through the crowded streets of the historic center of Toledo.

The one who handed out the most books was a young boy named Josua. He alone handed out 83 books. “We are grateful for the response of the people who accepted the book and committed to read it, as well as to the Personal Ministries department of the church, to the Pathfinders and instructors, and to all those who volunteered to do this work of preparing and delivering the books,” commented Pastor Peinado.

“Thanks to God for allowing us to do this work, and to all who participated. It has been a beautiful experience for us, an experience that we want to repeat,” he concluded.
