On July 6, 2025, during the 62nd General Conference (GC) Session in St. Louis, Missouri, delegates elected J. Raymond Wahlen II as undertreasurer of the Seventh-day Adventist Church for the 2025–2030 quinquennium.
Wahlen has served in this role since 2015, overseeing the church’s global treasury operations with a focus on transparency, efficiency, and mission alignment. Prior to this, he served as associate treasurer and co-director of the GC’s International Personnel Resources and Services, as well as director of SunPlus, the church’s global accounting software.
Wahlen’s early career included service with the General Conference Auditing Service in the U.S. and Singapore, followed by treasurer roles in the Guam-Micronesia Mission and the Montana and Washington conferences.
A third-generation missionary, Wahlen was born in Seoul, South Korea, and holds a BBA in Management and Accounting from Pacific Union College and an MBA from the University of Maryland University College. He is also a Certified Public Accountant (Maryland) and a Chartered Global Management Accountant.
Wahlen is passionate about strengthening the church’s financial systems, removing inefficiencies, and fostering collaboration across traditional organizational boundaries. He and his wife, Maurine, have two adult children, Jessica and Michael.
The election is part of the broader decision-making process of the GC Session, where global delegates gather every five years for worship, prayer, and organizational leadership decisions.
