The Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) is participating in the international effort to provide survivors of India’s earthquake disaster with the basic necessities of life. ADRA is supplying emergency food and shelter and has been assigned a territory for long-term reconstruction. ADRA officials say that, due to the third consecutive year of drought in the region, the food supply in Gujarat was short before the earthquake. The earthquake is the worst to hit India since August 15, 1950, when one of 8.5-magnitude killed 1,538 people in northeastern Assam state.
